Problematic Arthritis Is Never-ending

Problematic Arthritis Is Never-ending

Joint Pain – one of the leading complaints in patients with arthritis, and although it’s not the only symptom, it definitely doesn’t go unnoticed. Without a cure, un-treated arthritis is in a category of never-ending pain and discomfort for nearly 40 million people in the United States.

LIFE WITH ARTHRITIS

Think about the number of movements, big and small that you make every day. Whether it’s getting out of bed, putting on your shoes, getting in and out of the car, walking around the grocery store or just trying to sit on the couch. Now think about your joints – there are 360 of them in the human body. With arthritis, pain can be deep into the joint, it can be pain that only feels better with rest, pain that radiates through other body parts or even pain that gets worse throughout the day.

This is what it’s like to live with arthritis.

IS ARTHRITIS A ONE-SIZE FITS ALL CONDITION?

There are many types of arthritis – osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis to name a few. Each of these has something in common, “pain involving joints.” Arthritis affects everyone differently, regardless of which type you may have it is definitely not a one-size fit all condition.

HOW IS ARTHRITIS DIAGNOSED?

Since there are multiple types and symptoms of arthritis, it’s important for you to go to your doctor to talk about your situation. Only a doctor will be able to diagnose you. They will ask questions about your symptoms, conduct an examination and do any lab work and x-rays they feel are necessary to help narrow down what type of arthritis if any you are living with.

I HAVE ARTHRITIS – NOW WHAT?

Currently, there is not a cure for arthritis. However, you still have options for treatment.

Medication – medications may be available to help ease the symptoms of arthritis. Whether it’s pain, swelling or help with sleeping – there are options available with and without a prescription.

Exercise – even though your joints hurt and may swell, doing light exercises provided by your physician can help reduce stiffness and improve your range of motion.

Soothers – joints and muscles both respond to temperature. Try to use a heating pad or ice packs for temporary relief.

Extra Support – when your joints are weak, try to use special aids to get around, use assistive devices or wraps to give your joints the extra support they need.

Clinical Research Opportunity – new medications and treatment options are always being tested for safety and effectiveness with the end-goal of getting FDA-approved and providing relief for those with arthritis. By participating in a research study, you are making a difference in future generations treatment options while getting study-related care at no cost. For most opportunities, compensation for travel is available for those who qualify and participate.
